Finished Anatomy Sketchbook drawing. After studying the human skeleton then finding references for a horse skeleton, I put the 2 together to create a centaur with its combined skeletal anatomy exposed. Although I think the upper body should be smaller in proportion, now that I look at it.
That's awesome. I'm so glad you thought to do this, it's really interesting to see the skeletal frame of such a creature, y'know? Very anatomically correct and convincing!
I've been thinking over centaur anatomy and found yours. Quite beautiful- and helpful! I especially like the horse collarbone attached the lower human spine. And yes I agree it would make good sense for the organs to be doubled in number. But during my ruminations I wondered if the sharp angle of the human spine where it meets the horse body in typical centaur illustrations might be too sharp and lead to injury, considering the weight above it. Perhaps when we draw centaurs we should find ways of decreasing the angle, perhaps using the human sacrum. Thoughts?
I've featured your fascinating illustration in a journal post where I list some Deviations that try to answer the questions of centaur anatomy.
Da Vinci could not have don that better than you
Awesome. So, with two rib cages....does he have two hearts behind them? I've always wondered how their organs would work and how many they would have.
lol yeah really, that's pretty weird. Perhaps they really would have 2 hearts and 2 sets of lungs, that way they can properly keep the blood flowing and full of oxygen with their complex bodies.
